Lada Labzina, Honoured Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan and senior
lecturer at the faculty of organ and harpsichord studies at the Kazan State
Zhiganov Conservatoire, is an exceptionally talented representative of the Kazan
organ school. Having graduated from the conservatoire in piano and organ, in
addition to her activities as a teacher and arts manager she frequently performs
in recital, presenting the organ music of the Republic of Tatarstan to great
acclaim at various music forums. In 1991 she was a prize-winner at the II
All-Union Organ Competition in Kazan, in 1994 she was a diploma-recipient at the
International Organ Competition in Geneva (Switzerland), in 1999 she won the
Franz Liszt International Competition in the “Improvisation” category in
Budapest (Hungary) and, in 2001, she won 1st prize at the II Mikael Tariverdiev
International Organ Competition in Kaliningrad. Lada Labzina regularly
performs in recital throughout Russia and abroad. She has given concerts in
Moscow, St Petersburg, major towns in the Volga Region, the Urals and Siberia as
well as in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Great Britain, Germany,
France, Switzerland, Poland, Norway and Japan. The organist has participated in
the first Big Organ Jazz international festival in Chelyabinsk and the Moscow
Easter Festival. In June 2011 she performed at the Church of Norway in
Longyearbyen (Spitsbergen Island).
Labzina has written, performed and directed subscription series of concerts
at the Salikh Saidashev State Grand Concert Hall including Sunday Meetings on
the Organ, Famous and Little-Known Masterpieces, Johann Sebastian Bach and More,
The ABC of the Organ, An Organ Map of Europe and Tales from the Realm of the
Organ.
The organist’s repertoire stands apart for its rich variety, including works
ranging from the early classics to the avant-garde in addition to her own
improvisations and transcriptions.
In 2009 Labzina became Art Director of the Salikh Saidashev State Grand
Concert Hall in Kazan. She was the Artistic Director of the second Music of
Faith international festival of religious music as part of Kazan’s Cultural
Universiade in 2013.
The organist has produced recordings on national and regional radio and
television and has also released several CDs of organ music.
