Maria Litke (Soprano)
Maria Litke graduated cum laude from the Vocal Department of the Rimsky-Korsakov Musical College in 1999 and from the St Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire in 2005. She made her debut as Marguerite in Gounod’s Faust at the Conservatoire Musical Theatre, where she was a soloist in 2004–2006. In 2006, she joined the Mikhailovsky Opera. At the Mikhailovsky Theatre, she performed leading soprano parts in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Kalman’s Silva, Bizet’s Carmen, Gounod’s Faust, and the stage version of Verdi’s Requiem (productions by Stanislav Gaudasinsky). Here she also performed Tatiana in Eugene Onegin staged by Vasily Barkhatov and Mimì in Puccini’s La Bohème staged by Arnaud Bernard and Robert Carsen. Since 2007, she has taken parts in Japan tours of the Mikhailovsky Opera performing Micaëla in Carmen and the soprano part in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. With the Company, she also took part in the Belarus Christmas Festival with Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera (Amelia) under the baton of Peter Feranec. She has participated in the concert performances of Carmen (Micaëla) under the baton of Vasily Petrenko, Mozart’s Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira) under the baton of Mikhail Tatarnikov, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Snow Maiden under the baton of Dmitri Jurowski. With Mikhail Tatarnikov, she also recorded Iolanta.
In 2010, she was invited to the Liceu Theatre as a cover for Lisa (Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades). In 2012–2014, she performed the part of Tatiana (Eugene Onegin) in the Musa Cälil Theatre in Tatarstan and Pushkin Opera and Ballet Theatre in Nizhny Novgorod. In 2013, she performed Cassandra and Athena in the première of the full version of Taneyev’s Oresteia at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts (New York, USA). In 2014, this production was nominated for the International Opera Awards.
Maria Litke has perfromed with Vasily Sinaysky, Daniele Rustioni, Peter Feranec, Mikhail Tatarnikov, Dmitri Jurowski, and other renowned conductors, as well as with Vladimir Chernov, Elena Obraztsova, José Cura, Neil Shicoff, Badri Maisuradze, Giuseppe Varano, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, and other famous singers. She has a wide concert répertoire and performs with the Russian Chamber Orchestra and leading organists of St Petersburg and Moscow. Her professional awards include a great number of prizes for Russian and international vocal competitions.
Nowadays, at the Mikhailovsky Theatre, she performs leading soprano parts in the operas by Richard Wagner, Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Ruggero Leoncavallo, Jacques-François-Fromental-Élie Halévy, Antonín Dvořák, and Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
