Alexander Maskalin (Stage Director)
Alexander Maskalin graduated from the Acting Faculty
of the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and
Cinematography (1998, class of T. M. Abrosimova). He has
worked at the Youth Theatre on the Fontanka,
the Ostrov theatre and the Baltic House Theatre, where he
performed the roles of Romeo (Romeo and Juliet), Sebastian
(Twelfth Night), Hamlet (Hamlet) and Lensky (Eugene
Onegin) among many others. He is a recipient of the Kinoshok
prize. At the Mariinsky Academy of Young Singers, he has worked as a
teacher of stage diction and acting. At the Mariinsky Theatre, Alexander
Maskalin has created a semi-staged production of the opera The Love for
Three Oranges. He also created semi-staged productions of the operas
The Stone Guest and Maddalena and he has also staged
productions of May Night, The Marriage and How Ivan Ivanovich
Quarrelled with Ivan Nikiforovich at the Concert Hall of
the Mariinsky Theatre. He staged Alexander Smelkov’s opera The Station
Supervisor, performed by the Mariinsky Opera Company. At
the Vladikavkaz Theatre of Opera and Ballet, he has staged the opera
Manon Lescaut.
