The 9-year-old Sergey Prokofiev never saw his first grand
composition staged but 110 years later the young audience
of St Petersburg has the unique chance to see the production
at the Mikhailovsky Theatre. The children can feel that any performance
is like a game where the rules can be changed at any time.
While the children follow the adventures and battles in the production, the
grown-ups can hear the motives which later appeared in the masterpieces
of the mature composer. The main discovery of the subscription
is the fact that the author of Velikan (The Giant) and the
author of War and Peace spoke the same musical language.
