Pablo Heras-Casado (Conductor)

Pablo Heras-Casado enjoys a multi-faceted conducting career of unusual breadth and variety, his repertoire ranging from early music through to cutting-edge contemporary scores and from the most intimate of chamber programmes through to grand opera.

During the 2011-12 season he will be making his debuts with Berliner Philharmoniker, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. In October 2011 the maestro returned to the Canadian Opera Company with Gluck’s opera Iphigenie en Tauride. Other highlights include the conductor’s first appearances at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden with Donizetti’s opera L’elisir d’amore and a tour with Freiburger Barockorchester in March 2012.

Last season Pablo Heras-Casado’s operatic projects included conducting Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny at the Teatro Real in Madrid with La Fura dels Baus and Nixon in China with Canadian Opera Company. For the latter he was nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore Award by The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts for his “Outstanding Musical Direction.” In May 2011 Pablo Heras-Casado conducted world premiere performances of Hosokawa’s Matsukaze at La Monnaie in association with the Sasha Waltz & Guests company and the Vocalconsort Berlin ensemble to great acclaim. The production also travelled to Warsaw, Luxembourg and to the Staatsoper Berlin. Pablo Heras-Casado has also made his debuts with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of St Luke’s, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Netherlands Radio Kammerphilharmonie. Furthermore, he returned to the Tonhalle-Orchester Zurich, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the BBC Philharmonic, the NHK Symphony Orchestra, the Mostly Mozart Orchestra in New York and the International Contemporary Ensemble.

Pablo Heras-Casado has conducted numerous operas, among them The Elixir of Love for English National Opera, Rigoletto for Welsh National Opera, the world premiere of Marc-Olivier Dupin’s ballet Les Enfants du paradis for the Opera National de Paris and a new production of Offenbach’s La Perichole with the Opera National de Bordeaux.

A champion of contemporary music, Pablo Heras-Casado has worked with the Ensemble ACJW at Carnegie Hall, the Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt, the Klangforum Wien chamber ensemble and the Collegium Novum Zurich. Pierre Boulez and Peter Eцtvцs headed the jury which unanimously voted Pablo Heras-Casado winner of the 2007 Lucerne Festival Conductors’ Competition which included an acclaimed performance of Stockhausen’s Gruppen. The conductor’s future plans with the Ensemble intercontemporain include appearances at the Lucerne Festival in 2012. With his original-instrument chamber opera company the Compaснa Teatro del Prнncipe, in Aranjuez he recently released world premiere recordings of Castel’s La fontana del placer and Boccherini’s La Clementina for Harmonia Mundi. In the summer of 2011 the Naпve label released two of the conductor’s recent recordings – Giuseppe Bonno’s L’isola disabitata and a DVD of Schubert’s Eighth Symphony with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France on the Naпve label.
