Tibor Kovac (Violin soloist)

Began playing the violin at the age of four, under his father's tuition

1988 – 1992 Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna (under Michael Frischenschlager)

1992, 1994, 1998 private studies (under Alfred Staar and Boris Kuschnir)

1989 – 1991 master classes (under Zachar Bron, Igor Oistrach)

 

Tibor Kováč has performed concerts as a soloist and chamber player in Europe, Japan, Taiwan, and the USA. As a soloist, he has played with both domestic and foreign orchestras (the Virtuosi di Praga, the Franz Liszt Kammerorchester, the Camerata Academica Salzburg, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin, and the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra), under conductors such as Peter Hirsch, Kent Nagano, Johannes Wildner, Marek Janowski, Jahja Ling, and others.

He is a member of the Wiener Virtuosen, and has worked with the Ensemble Wien. In the area of chamber music, he has also worked with musicians such as Momoko Adachi (piano), Gottlieb Wallisch (piano), Carlos Rivera (piano), Julian Rachlin (violin), Ernst Ottensamer (clarinet), Wolfgang Schulz (flute), Franz Bartolomey (cello), Thomas Hampson (baritone), and others, as well as with the Slovak-based Moyzes Quartet. Since 1992, he has held the post of principal second violinist at the Vienna Philharmonic.

As a soloist, Kováč has performed at the Carnegie Hall in New York and the Victoria Hall in Geneva (together with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande); he is also a regular guest at the concert cycle held in the Brahms Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna.

He has recorded for Slovak Radio, Slovak Television, ORF, Musikleben, L'aimer dieu, and HNH International. He has also headed master classes at L'Academia Leuciana d'Arte in Italy and the Tokyo College of Music in Japan. In 2004, he became a professor at the Vienna State Conservatory.
