Vladislav Karklin (Conductor)

• Recipient of the 1st prize at the Schmolz and Bickenbach Chamber Music Competition (Dusseldorf, 2001, clarinet)
• Grant-recipient of the Richard Wagner Society (2002)
• Grant-recipient of Deutsche Bank and winner of the Classical Theatre Today competition in the category “Opera Conducting” (2002–2004)

Vladislav Karklin was born in Leningrad in 1971. He began to study music as a clarinettist and graduated with distinction from the St Petersburg Conservatoire, clarinet class of Professor Adil Fyodorov. Throughout his studies at the conservatoire he attended the symphony music conducting class of Professor Ilya Musin, and in 2000 he trained under Professor Alexander Titov. In 1997 Vladislav Karklin completed his postgraduate studies with distinction at the Robert Schumann Musikhochschule in Dusseldorf (clarinet class of Professor Ernst Kinderman), and in 2002 he graduated in piano and symphony music conducting (classes of Professors Wolfgang Trommer and Lutz Herbig).

Vladislav Karklin began his professional career as a clarinettist, appearing with the Peterhof Orchestra before moving to the St Petersburg Chamber Opera Company and subsequently the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St Petersburg Philharmonic.

From 2001-2005 he worked as a conductor at the Opernhaus Wuppertal in Germany. Subsequently, from 2005 to 2009 he was Deputy Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Stadttheater in Passau (Germany), from 2009 to 2011 he was Guest Conductor of the St Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra and, from 2010 to 2013 he was a conductor at the Staatstheater Darmstadt (Germany).

From 2007 Vladislav Karklin was Guest Conductor of the Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium (USA), from 2009 he was a conductor at the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St Petersburg, since 2011 he has been a Permanent Guest Conductor at the Mariinsky Theatre and the Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre and since 2013 he has been a Guest Conductor at the Helikon Opera in Moscow.
