Born in Vladivostok. In 2006 after graduating from the Belarusian
State Choreographic College joined the National Academic Bolshoi Ballet Theatre
of Belarus as a principle dancer. During his studies performed
on the stage of that theatre the part of Basil in Don
Quixote (Valentin Yelizariev production) and the part of Ali
in Le Corsaire (Pyotr Gusev
production).
In 2006-11 danced with the
Bolshoi Ballet. In 2011 he joined Mikhailovsky Theatre Ballet Company
and then became the ABT principal.

In 2011, he joined the Mikhailovsky Ballet as a Principal
Dancer. Vasiliev’s repertoire with the Mikhailovsky includes principal roles in
Don Quixote, Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, La Fille mal
gardée, La Bayadère, Laurencia, La Sylphide, The Flames of Paris, Le Halte de
cavalerie, and Class Concert. His awards include medals at the international
ballet competitions in Varna, Moscow, and Perm. He is also the winner of the
Triumph Youth Prize, British Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards in the
category Spotlight and as Best Male Dancer, and the Benois de la Danse Award for
his performance in Le Corsaire and The Flames of Paris (2009). In 2011, he
received Grand Prix at the International Dance Open Festival. In 2014, he was
awarded the title of Honored Artist of Russia.
In 2012–2013, Ivan Vasiliev was a Principal Dancer with American Ballet
Theatre (ABT). In 2014, he took part in the closing ceremony of the Winter
Olympics in Sochi (Natasha Rostova’s First Ball scene). In 2015, Ivan Vasiliev
made his debut as a choreographer: at the Barvikha Luxury Village he premiered
his Ballet № 1. In 2016, he staged three one-act ballets — Morphine, Blind
Affair, and Bolero — which are included in the repertoire of the Mikhailovsky
Theatre. In May 2016, Vasiliev’s ballet Love is All Around premiered at the
Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
Tours
In 2006 he took part in the 20th
International Ballet Festival in Havana where, together with Natalia
Osipova, he danced the pas de deux from Boris Asafiev’s The Flames
of Paris (choreography V. Vaynonen) and the pas de deux from
Don Quixote.
In 2008, he participated with
Natalia Osipova in the Stars of Today and Tomorrow Gala Concert
(pas de deux from The Flames of Paris) which wound up the
Youth America Grand Prix 9th International Competition of Ballet
School Pupils, founded in 1999 by the former Bolshoi Ballet dancers
Gennadi Saveliev and Larisa Savelieva;
he appeared in Kazan
in gala concerts winding up the Rudolf Nureyev International Festival
of Classical Ballet, dancing the pas de deux from The Flames
of Paris (partnered by Bolshoi Ballet soloist Natalia
Osipova);
he participated in a Gala Concert of ballet
dancers at the Lyons Amphitheatre des Trois Gaules (variations and coda
from Don Quixote, pas de deux from The Flames of Paris,
partner — Natalia Osipova);
within the framework of the First
Siberian Ballet Festival, he appeared in the Novosibirsk Theatre
of Opera and Ballet production of Don Quixote, dancing the part
of Basil (Kitri — Natalia Osipova);
he appeared as Count
Albrecht in the Novosibirsk State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet
production of Giselle (with Natalia Osipova in the title
role);
