"Dear
friends!
The Arts Square Festival, to be held in December 2012, has
invites the best musicians of the world – interpreters of music of different
eras, genres and styles. Among them – the winners of the Grammy award, Joshua
Bell and the Berlin Academy for Early Music, pianist Boris Berezovsky, and
Alexei Lyubimov and German Ensemble Recherche, my colleagues, Alexander
Dmitriev, Nikolai Alekseev and Vladimir Jurowski who will come to Saint
Petersburg for the first time together with the Svetlanov Symphony
Orchestra.
In general, the upcoming festival
is highlighted by a record number of new names for St. Petersburg. These are
debutants of the Arts Square: Alessio Bax, Joshua Weilerstein and Alisa
Weilerstein
For the first time on the stage of the Philharmonia both
ensembles from Germany will appear as well as the great singers Marisol
Montalvo, Lawrence Brownlee and Jochen Kupfer, with whom I will perform at the
close of the festival. Most of the participants come from Germany and the USA
and so, according to tradition, we complete the cultural program with
cross-cultural years “Germany - Russia” and “The USA – Russia.” These events
inspired the Arts Square program, which is dominated by German and American
music. These is no doubt that the audience will be attracted by the theme of the
concerts – “Written in America,” “All included”, “Chef-doeuvres of German
Baroque” and “MUSICIRCUS” in honor of the anniversary of John Cage.
The
program also includes many composer`s premieres from the orchestral piece by the
twentieth century classic John Adams to the ensemble work by Saint Petersburg
Conservatory student, Yuri Akbalkan.
I am pleased that our traditional
partner, the Mikhailovsky Theatre, will also present two premierea at the
festival performances. I am looking forward to our meetings with musicians
and listeners at the Arts Square Festival."
