Stefan Kagl was born in Munich in 1963; he
studied at the Munich State College of Music (under Klemens Schnorr), at the
Schola Cantorum in Paris (six years of instruction under Jean Langlais, premiere
interpreter of a number of works) and at the Conservatoire Superieur de Paris
(CNR). He won the Prix de Virtuosite at the Schola Cantorum and passed his A
Examination in church music and the State Artist’s Examination in his major
field of organ at the Munich College of Music. At the Conservatorie Superieur de
Paris he received the Premiere Prix and the Prix d`Excellence. His made his
Paris and London debuts in 1988 at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and at St.
Paul’s Cathedral in London with works by Reubke and Langlais. He was the winner
of the first prize at the International Cesar Franck Competition at St. Bavo in
Haarlem, Holland. During 1991–96 he was the city and regional music director in
Bad Kissingen and during 1997–2002 the music director at the two principal
churches in Rudolstadt, Thuringia. Since July 2002 he has been the music
director and organist at the Herford Minster and the artistic director of the
Herford Organ Summer. Since 2005 he has taught artistic organ playing and
improvisation at the Herford College of Church Music. Radio and CD recordings,
publications in journals in his field, and international concertizing round off
his field of activities.
