On 18 June, a gala concert will be held to mark the 350th anniversary of the birth of Russian Emperor Peter the Great.
The name of the charismatic Russian tsar, founder of the city on the River Neva, strikes a chord with every Petersburger.
In the first part of the concert, the audience will see fragments of Andrey Petrov's opera Peter the Great and follow the life of the reformist tsar from his youth to his triumphant victory over Sweden.
The sovereign and his people will endure all manner of hardships, demonstrating courage, strength, and love of country.
The Mikhailovsky Theatre orchestra and chorus will accompany the performance.
The second part of the gala concert will feature some of the brightest ballet stars of Russia’s leading theatres.
