Characters

Elektra (soprano; usually spelled Electra in English)-daughter of King Agammemnon and Klytamnestra, a young girl obsessed with killing her mother to avenge her father's murder.

Chrysothemis (soprano)-Elektra's sister, a mild-mannered girl who longs for a normal life, a family of her own, and peace.

Klytamnestra (mezzo-soprano; usually spelled Clytemnestra in English)-Queen of Mycenae, mother of Elektra, Chrysothemis, and the late Iphigenia, and Orestes. With the help of her lover Aegisth, Klytamnestra murdered her husband Agammemnon.

Aegisth (tenor; usually spelled Aegisthus English)-Klytamnestra's lover, he helped murder Agammemnon and is partially responsible for keeping Elektra in her degraded position in the household.

Orest (baritone; usually spelled Orestes in English)-brother of Chrysothemis and Elektra. Klytamnestra exiled him--but Elektra awaits the day when he will return to avenge their father.
