Alexei Steblianko (Tenor)

People?s Artist of Russia.
All-Union Competition prize-winner.

Born in 1950 in Stavropol where he began his music studies. After working for a short period, he continued his studies at the Leningrad State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire.
Invited to join the Kirov Theatre of Opera and Ballet in 1976. Several years later, he became the company?s leading soloist, performing the main roles in the Russian, Italian, French and German repertoires such as Lensky (Eugene Onegin), Don Jose (Carmen), Lohengrin (Lohengrin) and Radames (Aida). Throughout his career at the Kirov Theatre, his voice has developed to include lower-range roles. Alexei Steblianko?s frequent tours with the Kirov Theatre to Western Europe have earned him a glowing reputation.

Alexei Steblianko made his debut at La Scala as Aeneas (Les Troyens) and at Covent Garden as Jason in Cherubini?s Medea. He later performed the main roles in Il trovatore, Boris Godunov and Prince Igor at these theatres.
In 1991, was invited to Germany. His debut as Herman in Lyubimov?s famous production of The Queen of Spades in Karlsruhe met with great acclaim. He later took part in concert performances of The Queen of Spades conducted by Valery Gergiev at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

Since the 1991-92 season, Alexei Steblianko has been a guest performer with the Bavarian Staatsoper (Munich), where he performs as Grigory (Boris Godunov) and Canio (I pagliacci). He has also sung as Canio at the Stuttgart Opera. He was subsequently invited to sing Otello (Otello) and Dick Johnson (La fanciulla del west) in Bonn, Otello in Essen, Brussels and Amsterdam and has made several recordings on radio and CD.
Has also performed Otello in Cologne, Canio and Florestan (Fidelio) in Bonn and Macduff (Macbeth) in Cologne. In the Mariinsky Theatre – Metropolitan Opera joint production of Prokofiev?s War and Peace performed Pierre Bezukhov.

His repertoire at the Mariinsky Theatre includes Prince Vasily Golitsyn (Khovanshchina), Pierre Bezukhov (War and Peace), Prince Vsevolod (The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maid Fevronia in concert), Herman (The Queen of Spades), Don Alvaro (La forza del destino), Otello (Otello), Radames (Aida), Calaf (Turandot) and Samson (Samson et Dalila).

At the Mariinsky Theatre he also performs the role of Canio in Leoncavallo?s I pagliacci.
